Dmitriy Ratushniy took part in shooting of the feature length film «Saving Leningrad» as the second cameraman. «Frankly speaking, I hate war and especially the hand-held camera. Maybe that's why I had to appear under cross fire and explosions. I wanted to be as close to an actor as possible, so long-focus optics were out of the question, we stopped at 25 mm. The task for the camera was simple - to go toe-to-toe with an actor. But unlike the actor, I didn’t know when and where an explosion would occur and whether it would occure at all. It was the real deal! Because in the real war, a soldier likewise has no idea if he will get out alive or not. After the first take, when the earth trembled and for several seconds the burning earth filled up all the space around us, it became clear, that we were on the right track.»
